Product Details
▾
This remanufactured Electronic Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU) is an aftermarket replacement carrying reference numbers 240-5309 and CH12800R, fitted as a direct replacement on Perkins 2306 and 2806 series diesel engines.
The 2306 and 2806 are industrial and generator set platforms, which means they spend their working lives doing something rather different from a truck engine. Many run at fixed speed under varying load for thousands of hours at a stretch; others sit as standby units and are asked to start, take full load and hold frequency within seconds of a mains failure. Both duty patterns put their own kind of stress on the control module, and both make a failed ECM more consequential than the part price suggests.
Each unit begins as a tested core and is rebuilt at component level. The board is cleaned and inspected under magnification, with capacitors, injector driver components and solder joints renewed wherever measurement calls for it. Housing seals and gaskets are replaced, conformal coating is refreshed, and the finished module is bench-tested under simulated load so it will restore factory-specified operating parameters once programmed to your engine.
- Direct replacement fitment — original mounting pattern, connector layout and harness routing, so no wiring modification or bracket fabrication is required.
- Two reference numbers, one part — listed as both 240-5309 and CH12800R, so it can be found whichever number your paperwork or your existing unit carries.
- Component-level remanufacture — rebuilt from a tested core with renewed electronics, refreshed conformal coating and resealed housing.
- Bench-tested under simulated load — exercised before packing, not simply powered up.
- Sealed and vibration-resistant housing — die-cast aluminium enclosure with sealed connectors, built for enclosure heat, moisture and continuous vibration.
- Function-restoring, not performance-altering — supplied to restore original operating parameters; no calibration changes of any kind are made to the unit.
- 6-month warranty — repair or replacement service if any fault appears within the period.
Why Does a Perkins Engine Part Carry Two Different Number Formats?
If your engine is a Perkins but the reference you have been given looks like a Caterpillar number, that is normal for this part. The same module is catalogued under both 240-5309 and CH12800R, and either number identifies it correctly. Order against whichever one appears on your existing unit or in your parts documentation — both lead to the same item.
Important: Programming Is Required Before Use
This module is not plug-and-play. Every engine carries its own calibration file, and the unit must be flashed to your specific serial number by a qualified technician using approved diagnostic software before the engine will run correctly. On generator set installations the rating, speed and governing parameters must also match your set — a module configured for one application will not hold frequency correctly on another.
Please send us the following after purchase:
- Engine Serial Number (ESN) and, where applicable, the machine or set identification number
- Clear photographs of your current ECM / ECU unit
- A clear photograph of the engine data plate
Installation and removal of an engine control module should always be carried out by an experienced technician. Isolate the installation from all power sources, including battery and mains supply, before any work begins.

Engine Application
| Engine Series | Typical Use |
|---|---|
| Perkins 2306 | Industrial and generator set applications |
| Perkins 2806 | Industrial and generator set applications |
Before ordering: both the 2306 and 2806 series were supplied in a range of ratings and build specifications, and more than one control module variant exists across them. Read the number on your existing module — it may show either 240-5309 or CH12800R — and order against that. If neither number appears on your unit, send us a clear photograph of the module label together with the engine data plate and serial number, and we will confirm the correct part before you buy.

Common Failure Symptoms
▾
On an industrial or generator set engine, control module faults tend to show up as speed and load behaviour rather than as the drivability complaints familiar from vehicle engines. These are the patterns reported most often.
| Symptom | What It Usually Points To |
|---|---|
| Engine speed hunts or surges at fixed load | Governing instability. Can originate in the module, but check fuel supply, air intake restriction and the speed sensor signal first — all three produce hunting that is indistinguishable at the panel. |
| Set will not accept a load step | Frequency dips too far or the set trips when load is applied. A module losing its grip on fuelling response is one cause; a fuel restriction or a tired turbo is another. Test with a load bank before deciding. |
| Standby set fails to start on demand | The worst way to discover a fault. On sets that sit idle between monthly exercise runs, check battery condition and charger output first — a weak battery is by far the most common cause and mimics module failure exactly. |
| Engine cranks but will not start | No injector drive signal reaching the fuel system; verify power and ground at the module before condemning it. |
| Shutdown after extended running | A thermal fault inside the module, aggravated by the confined and poorly ventilated enclosures many industrial installations use. Note how many hours it takes and whether it restarts once cool. |
| Repeat injector driver fault codes | Output driver stage failure — codes return on multiple cylinders after new injectors are fitted. |
| No communication with diagnostic software | Data link failure between the module and the service tool; check the connector and harness continuity first. |
| Corrosion inside the connector | Failed housing seal. On standby sets in unheated plant rooms, months of temperature cycling drive condensation into the connector even where there is no obvious water source. |
On a standby set, suspect the battery before the module. Battery condition, charger output, ground integrity and corroded pins imitate module failure far more often than the module itself, and a set that only runs for thirty minutes a month is exactly the environment in which a battery quietly loses capacity without anyone noticing. Load-test the battery and verify charger output before ordering a replacement module, and confirm with a full diagnostic scan.
