This remanufactured Electronic Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU) is an aftermarket replacement for Caterpillar part number 239-3879, built for one application only: the 3126E truck engine.
Most Caterpillar ECM references cover a dozen engine families and scores of machine variants, which means most of the work of buying one is making sure you have the right one. This is not one of those. A single application means a single question: is your engine a 3126E, and does the plate on your module read 239-3879? If both are yes, this is the part.
The 3126E is a medium-duty engine, and the vehicles it sits in reflect that — school buses, box trucks, fire apparatus, service bodies, motorhomes. Common Failure Symptoms

The ECM does more than run the engine. It also broadcasts the data the dash, the cruise control and any body systems depend on, which is why some module faults show up as electrical complaints rather than driveability ones. Both kinds are worth recognising.

Rule out the cheap causes first. Battery condition, ground straps, charging voltage, harness chafing and corroded pins imitate module failure far more often than the module itself.
