Product Details

This EMCP 4.1 and 4.2 generator control panel is a new aftermarket replacement for reference numbers 450-9596, 503-4399, 592-5150, 351-8757, 20R-4091, 30R-0042 and 20R-8823, fitted as a direct replacement on C9, C13, C15, C18, C27 and C32 generator sets and C27 petroleum gen sets.

EMCP 4.1 and 4.2 sit at the entry and mid points of the EMCP 4 range. They are the panels found on the great majority of single-engine standby and prime power sets — the ones that run a single alternator without paralleling, load sharing or energy storage coordination. That simpler scope is exactly why they are so widely installed, and why a failed panel is such a common service call: engine parameters, AC metering, generator protection, alarm annunciation and start and stop control all live in this one unit, so when it dies the set generally cannot be run or monitored at all.

  • Direct replacement fitment — matches the original panel cut-out, mounting pattern and harness connectors, so no enclosure modification or rewiring is needed.
  • New condition — supplied unused, in plain protective packaging without third-party branding.
  • Focused C-series coverage — C9, C13, C15, C18, C27 and C32 generator sets, plus C27 petroleum gen sets.
  • Seven-number reference group — covers 450-9596, 503-4399, 592-5150, 351-8757, 20R-4091, 30R-0042 and 20R-8823 in hyphenated and plain forms.
  • Core control and monitoring interface — engine and AC parameter display, generator protection, alarm annunciation, control keypad and event log.
  • Function-restoring only — supplied to restore original operating parameters; no changes are made to protection settings or calibration.
  • 6-month warranty — repair or replacement service if any fault appears within the period.

Important: Programming Is Required Before Use

This panel is not plug-and-play. Every generator set carries its own configuration — engine family, alternator rating, voltage and frequency, CT ratios, protection thresholds and alarm setpoints — and the panel must be programmed to match your set by a qualified technician using approved service software before it will operate correctly.

Please send us the following after purchase:

  • The part number of your original monitor, plus a clear photograph of it
  • A clear photograph of the machine nameplate (VIN plate)

We use these to confirm the correct panel specification and configuration for your set.

Installation and removal of a generator set control panel should always be carried out by an experienced technician. Isolate the set from all power sources, including battery, mains and shore supply, before any work begins.

Fitment & OEM Interchange

The following reference numbers are listed for cross-reference and identification purposes only. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.

Order Against the Number on Your Own Panel

This reference group spans both EMCP 4.1 and EMCP 4.2 specifications. The two are not freely substitutable for one another, and neither is interchangeable with EMCP 4.2B, 4.3 or 4.4. Read the number printed on the label at the rear of your existing panel and order against that exact number. If it does not appear in the list below, or you are not certain which specification your set uses, send us the label together with a photograph of the machine nameplate — we will confirm before you buy.

Primary Reference Number 450-9596 / 4509596
Interchange Numbers 503-4399 / 5034399  |  592-5150 / 5925150  |  351-8757 / 3518757
Additional Cross-References 20R-4091 / 20R4091  |  30R-0042 / 30R0042  |  20R-8823 / 20R8823
Panel Generation EMCP 4.1 / EMCP 4.2

Application Chart — Compatible with Caterpillar Generator Sets

Category Models
Generator Set C9, C13, C15, C18, C27, C32
Petroleum Generator Set C27

A note on this application list: the same C-series engine can appear in standby, prime and continuous ratings with different alternator and switchgear specifications, and the panel fitted varies accordingly. The engine model alone is not enough to confirm fitment — the part number on your existing panel is. Send us that number with your machine nameplate and we will check it for you.

Common Failure Symptoms

Control panels usually degrade in stages rather than failing outright. These are the patterns reported most often on single-engine standby and prime power sets, and what each one typically points to.

Symptom What It Usually Points To
Set will not crank from the panel Failed start output or control logic. Confirm the emergency stop is reset and check the manual start path before condemning the panel.
Set fails its scheduled exercise run Failed internal clock or timer function — common on standby sets, and often only noticed weeks later when the run log is reviewed.
Screen dark but the set runs Backlight or internal supply failure. Check panel supply voltage and the harness connector first.
Keypad buttons unresponsive Worn membrane keypad — the most common wear item, and usually the first symptom to appear on a frequently operated set.
Nuisance shutdowns with no real fault The panel acting on corrupted sensor input, or a failing protection stage. Cross-check the reported parameter against a gauge before accepting it.
AC metering values obviously wrong Failed voltage or current input stage, or an incorrect CT ratio setting. Verify with a clamp meter and check the configuration before replacing.
Alarms never annunciate Alarm output stage failure — the most serious mode on a standby set, since the machine appears monitored but protection is silently lost.
Panel freezes and needs a power cycle Processor lock-up, often heat related inside a sealed enclosure. A shortening interval between lock-ups means the panel is on its way out.
Configuration or event log lost after isolation Failed internal memory retention. The set may still run but needs reconfiguring after every battery disconnect, which is not sustainable.
No communication with service software Data link fault. Inspect the link wiring and connector for corrosion before assuming the panel itself has failed.

Check the supply side first. Battery condition, charger output, panel fuse, ground integrity and corroded harness pins imitate panel failure far more often than the panel itself. On standby sets that sit idle between monthly exercise runs, a weak or sulphated battery is by far the most common cause of a panel that appears dead — test the battery under load before ordering a replacement panel.
